What is TuffSkin?
TuffSkin is a patented, optically clear laminate film made of high-tech polyester. It is applied directly to the stone surface to create a physical barrier that is impermeable to liquids and acids.
Why is TuffSkin needed? Isn’t a sealer enough?
Calcium-based stones like marble and limestone are extremely sensitive to acid. A regular sealer is porous and can only delay, not prevent, etching and stains. TuffSkin is a completely sealed surface that provides full protection.
What warranty is included?
We offer a 10-year warranty that the surface will resist stains and etching from acids and alkaline substances.
Does TuffSkin work on materials other than natural stone?
Yes. TuffSkin can protect virtually any flat, non-porous surface, such as quartz composite, concrete, metal, and glass.
Properties and Durability
Is TuffSkin scratch-resistant?
Yes, the surface is scratch-resistant and effectively protects the underlying stone. However, it is not completely scratch-proof — a deep scratch from a sharp object can damage the film. The major advantage is that the film can be replaced, while the stone underneath remains unharmed.
How much heat can TuffSkin withstand?
uffSkin can withstand heat up to 200 °C (392 °F). It protects against damage from hot pots and coffee carafes, as well as heat tools like curling irons in bathroom environments.
Can TuffSkin be used outdoors?
Yes, the product has a built-in UV filter that protects against sunlight. In direct sunlight, its expected lifespan is shorter than indoors, but the protective function remains the same.
What is the lifespan?
The lifespan is mainly determined by wear and aesthetic preferences. In general, hotels and bars replace it after 3–7 years, while the surface in a private home often looks perfect for over 10 years. However, the protective function remains the same throughout the product’s entire lifespan.
Can TuffSkin start to come off on its own?
No. The adhesive is designed to stay securely in place while still being replaceable. TuffSkin cannot come off on its own, but it can be easily removed by a technician when it’s time for replacement.
Installation and Maintenance
How do I clean a surface with TuffSkin?
Use a soft microfiber cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner, such as regular window cleaner or soapy water.
Is the installation odor-free?
Yes, the installation is completely free from chemicals and strong odors that could disturb guests or the work environment.
How long does an installation take?
It depends on the size of the project. A medium-sized kitchen usually takes one working day. For hotel projects, we can install protection in 10–25 rooms per day.
How soon can I use the surface after installation?
The surface can be used with light use already two hours after the installation is complete. Full adhesion is achieved after 72 hours.
Appearance, Price, and Process
How is the appearance of the stone affected?
Most people find that TuffSkin enhances the stone’s color and shine. We offer two surface finishes: Glossy for polished stone and Matte for a finely ground, more matte stone. The goal is always to match the stone’s original appearance as closely as possible.
Does TuffSkin go over the edge?
No, TuffSkin is applied on the flat surface, where 99% of all wear and damage occur.
What does TuffSkin cost?
